Not Competent
AJ Robinson

Let me see if I have this straight. Trump supporters say they're voting for him because the GOP officials in Washington are a bunch of mindless jerks that don't do anything. Ah, okay, I guess I'll be the one to point out a key factor. You elected those jerks!

American voters elected these jerks.

The jerks told you what they were going to do: call for tax cuts for the rich, slash spending, except for military and subsidies to the corporations and say no to anything President “Blacula” wanted. They did exactly those things. You say you don't like it. Tough; this is what happens when you elect people that make it clear they do not want to govern. The former Speaker once bragged about the fact that Congress got so little done under his leadership.

Again, I point out that you elected those Tea Baggers!

What, now, as a true protest you throw your support behind a man who is incompetent to govern? I could easily list a dozen reasons Dumb Donald is unfit for the office, but here are a few. His views on women, Hispanics, Muslims, his daily, sometimes hourly, flip-flops on all manner of subjects, his unending lies, his total lack of knowledge on a myriad of subjects, his claim that his investigators had found incredible things about Obama's birth certificate, remember that story. So, what'd they find?

Donald Trump is overly sensitive, for a politician.

The incredibly thin skin, of Donald Trump, lack of specifics on any of a number of things, the stupid wall idea and so on. As a civil engineer, I can tell you that the wall is none-starter. Let's focus, though, on one area of great importance: his tendency to engage mouth before brain is in gear, as my Dad used to say.

Recently, there was a plane crash in the Mediterranean, an Egyptian airplane going from Paris to Cairo went down; all aboard were lost. Literally, within minutes of the tragedy Dumb Donald was proclaiming it an act of terrorism. This was without a shred of evidence to back him up. Is Trump the person you want as Commander-in-Chief?

His statement was beyond merely reckless, it was dangerous. In the days since the crash, not one single terrorist organization has claimed responsibility for the act. In addition, it’s been determined that a fire started inside an electrical closet of the plane shortly before the crash.

As terrorists tend to plant bombs, bombs that go off with a big boom, it’s sounding more and more likely that the crash was the result of a technical failure. Yet, if that turns out to be the case, do you think anyone will bring it up to Dopey Don? Consider this.

In 1996, a TWA flight from New York to Paris went down shortly after takeoff. It crashed into Long Island Sound; all aboard lost. Initial reports had eyewitnesses claiming they saw a rocket hit the plane.

It took months, but finally the wreckage found and pieced back together; the cause determined. An electrical fault in a fuel tank ignited the fuel and blew up the plane. They estimated that the initial blast caused the wing to snap off, and that might have been what people saw as a missile.

What if these events happened on a President Trump watch?

Now, think for a moment; ask yourself this very serious question. What would President Dumb Donald have done in response to that event? Do you honestly think he would have waited for the final report issued before attacking someone?

That's why the thought of him in the Oval Office scares me, and convinces me he is not competent to hold the office of the president.

Combining the gimlet-eye of Philip Roth with the precisive mind of Lionel Trilling, AJ Robinson writes about what goes bump in the mind, of 21st century adults. Raised in Boston, with summers on Martha's Vineyard, AJ now lives in Florida. Working, again, as an engineeer, after years out of the field due to 2009 recession and slow recovery, Robinson finds time to write. His liberal, note the small "l," sensibilities often lead to bouts of righteous indignation, well focused and true. His teen vampire adventure novel, "Vampire Vendetta," will publish in 2020. Robinson continues to write books, screenplays and teleplays and keeps hoping for that big break.
