Impeachment Aftermath
Matt Seinberg

Before I rant over the Senate impeachment trail of Donald Trump let me state these views are my own, although I believe tens of millions of Americans share my views.

The American President is an idiot.

If you haven't guessed from my past writing od our idiot president, I'm not a fan. There is nothing of the man I like. I dislike everything about him, especially his fake tan and highly over combed hair.

The facts supported his impeachment by the House of Representatives. He obstructed justice and asked the Ukrainian President for a favour in exchange for monetary aid. That's like having Trump ask Kelly Conway for sex, excuse me, yuck, to stay employed. That thought is wrong on many different levels.

Of course, two articles of impeachment passed the House, right along party lines. Of course, the Senate was going to shoot them down, again right along party lines. There was no impartiality at all in the Senate because Mitch “The Turtle" McConnell and Lyndsey Graham had their colleagues in a stranglehold.

Four Republican Senators were considering voting with the Democrats on asking for witnesses. These Senators were Lamar Alexander from Tennessee, Susan Collins from Maine, Lisa Murkowski of Alaska and Mitt Romney of Utah. Of the four, only Romney had enough integrity to vote with the Democrats to have witnesses appear before the Senate.

What trial does not have witnesses? Presumed innocent? A jury of your peers?

How could the Senate not allow witnesses that would have shown the president complicit on the charges? Were they afraid might be removed from office? Hell yeah!

With all the news swirling around the Senate trial and the facts that came out about the Ukrainian President, he was still presumed innocent, even though everyone knew he was guilty. Only by idiocy of the Senate did the president get off, scot free.

As for a jury of his peers, what a crock of crap. There was no way that the Republicans were going to let him be convicted on any charges. He stated once that he could kill someone on the streets of New York City and walk away from any charges because he is so popular.

Cloister of the fearful.

Somehow, the Republican Party have been taken over by the Trumpers and sitting Senator fear them; together, most Republican Senators form a cloister of the fearful. The president is a vindictive SOB. This was shown by two firings that happened shortly after the Senate trial ended.

Trump first ousted Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman, a Ukraine expert, from the National Security Council, and just hours later, yanked Gordon Sondland, US ambassador to the European Union, from his post in Brussels. There is no doubt in my mind that when they made it to the White House to be told they were being fired; the president went on a childish rampage. I'm sure there was no "Thank you for your service" speech.

I truly hope that for the November election, the Democrats manage to nominate someone, anyone, that can defeat this orange monster that is tearing our nation apart. There really doesn't seem to be that strong a front runner, now.

Former New York City Mayor, Michael Bloomberg, is spending hundreds of millions of dollars of his own money to run the presidency. He is not taking donations from any individuals, corporations or political action committees.

Trump said he was too rich to need contributions, yet took all monies offered, from wherever it came, and asked for more. He said that because he was rich, he wouldn't be beholden to anyone or any company. After seeing the who he appointed to his cabinet, his claim certainly rang false. Come on, appointing former Exxon CEO Rex Tillerson as Secretary of State? That's they guy who was in charge when the Exxon Valdez spilled millions of gallons of oil in Alaska.

What of Betsy DeVos, who wants to undue anything the Obama administration did for the good of schools? This woman is a menace to our children and school system. Notice she has been lying low in order to complete her dirty work.

Vote against the Phantom Menace.

The president is megalomaniacal liar who wouldn't know the truth if it bit him in the ass. When the time comes to vote in November, vote for anyone other than Trump. He's not a Phantom Menace, he is a very visible menace to our society.

Matt Seinberg lives on Long Island, a few minutes east of New York City. He looks at everything around him and notices much. Somewhat less cynical than dyed in the wool New Yorkers, Seinberg believes those who don't see what he does like reading about what he sees and what it means to him. Seinberg columns revel in the silly little things of life and laughter as well as much well-directed anger at inept, foolish public officials. Mostly, Seinberg writes for those who laugh easily at their own foibles as well as those of others.
