Mose Allison: The Way of the World

Mose Allison's quirky pianism remains brilliant & he is still one of the most deliciously sharp, sly songwriters. The Way of the World's producer ( a younger, brilliant songsmith ) relentlessly 'stalked' Mose until the 82-year-old decided, 'Well, what the hell, I haven't done a record in a long time!' A few years ago, when asked to curate a music festival in Germany, Joe Henry said 'Well, the first thing I'd want to do is invite Mose Allison.' Later, Joe described that remark as 'really, just an excuse for me to be in his orbit' & said 'I became fairly obsessed with the notion that Mose might yet have something more to tell us.' Joe was right; he has done a brilliant job of letting Mose be his singular self, whilst adding unexpected musical colours. Like to know how Joe coaxed Mose into a recording studio - after a 12-year absence - & what then happened? Mamadou Diabate, Bobby Singh and Jeff Lang

Djan Djan is the freely available, expanded version of the wonderful CD by guitarist Jeff Lang, tabla maestro Bobby Singh and mind-boggling kora player Mamadou Diabate. Mamadou Diabate is a cousin of the world's most famous kora player, Toumani Diabate, and has been going from strength to creative strength since moving to the USA. Bobby Singh has lived in Australia for years but was born in England and spent much of his youth in Mumbai studying the tabla and is a disciple of the great Aneesh Pradhan. Jeff Lang is the Geelong-raised musician who, like Richard Thompson, combines incisive lyrics with virtuosic guitar flights of fantasy. They met when Mamadou toured Australia in early 2008. Djan Djan was spontaneously made one March day in Melbourne. With Jeff on acoustic lap slide, they make a new, inspiring sound. The original version of the album had only 5 tracks and was only available in one pressing. The new version has 10 tracks and is universally available, through ABC.
